ANTONIA BREEN - BIOGRAPHY

Antonia comes from a musical family and started in professional children's theatre at 12. After her Diploma of Music and Drama in Toowoomba, she freelanced performing in bands, children's theatre, stage shows and anything that came up.  During this time she studied sacred music in Edinburgh both through the University and St. Giles Cathedral always singing jazz on the side, later becoming up front singer in an Oxford pop band.

Antonia trained as a secondary school teacher and taught music and drama for the Qld. Education Dept for 10 years, leaving to develop her private teaching practice and pursue performance opportunities. She now tutors at QUT music department and Lourdes Hill College Hawthorne, where she taught for 9 years. She now teaches at All Hallows School in Brisbane.

Stage direction for songs from musical theatre and working with professionals is what she likes best. Antonia sings with eclectic vocal trio “Carintare” and Jazz trio “Three in a Low Key”.

Antonia has worked with John Farnham, Marcia Hines, Jon English, Ingrid James, Alison St. Ledger, Kate Miller-Heidke and Carita Farrah, and her happiest performance was as soloist with Tommy Tycho and the Qld Symphony orchestra.

Antonia has worked as the vocal tutor for Queensland Theatre Company’s productions of “We Were Dancing”, “Venetian Twins”, ”Puss in Boots” and “The Caucasian Chalk Circle”.
She was the voice tutor for the full-time Performing Arts Course at the Davidia Lind Dance Studio for five years, and has been on the committee for the Australian National Association of Teachers of Singing 2004-2010

Jazz and cabaret is her favourite style of music and she loves teaching.
